One of the problems that I always run into while reading blogs is the pain that I have to go through to find a good resourceful post. Yes, I can get to that particular post through social media, search engines and so on, but I would like to access them all in one post. That’s all I want to look into…one post filled with resources. So here it is… one single post with plugins, web apps and mobile apps. Bookmark it and access it all from a single post. What better way to do it than this.

note : This post is a compilation of some of the most popular posts on NH. Read the rest of this entry

I came across this really cool web application on wired and thought I would let you guys know about it as well in case you don’t already know. The app is called Celebrity Meter and it measures how popular you are on the Internet. Remember the high school days when we were all trying to find out how popular we were? Well, it’s time to go back in time but this time it’s not going to be your high school but the internet.

The applications rates your popularity on the basis of three things : your Myspace profile, your Twitter profile and your blog/site. Although I personally think there should be more ways to measure your popularity on the internet, it still is a fun app to play around with. Check it out here.
For the first time webmasters are notified that Google pagerank update is on its way. This is what Matt Cutts had to say on his blog,
Hey folks, I wanted to let you know that new toolbar PageRank values should become visible over the next few days. I’m expecting that also in the next few days that we’ll be expiring some older penalties on websites.
Let’s see what Google will roll out this time. We are still waiting to see how marketinghackz and this blog is going to be ranked, but to tell you the truth we think pagerank is overrated!

It’s time Google rolled something new. If there is a silence for too long from Google, it kind of gets worrisome. Google recently opened a new website “Knol” which allows users to share their expertise under their byline. The authors of the knols can take credit for their writing, provide credentials, and elicit peer reviews and comments. Search engines will index knols and will rank on search engines as any other sites would based on popularity and other factors. Authors also have the convenience of collaborating with other authors in creating a knol. Unlike Wikipedia, Knol focuses on individuals or groups of authors which are updated by users and edited behind scenes. And let’s not forget, as usual google will allow users to run ads on their entries and will share income with them.

We can just wait and see if this becomes one of google’s “Hits” or “Flops.” What do you think of this new service from Google?

Finally! Finally it seems like Microsoft is going to move on and leave Yahoo alone. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said that they are done running after Yahoo for now. I am kind of glad that Microsoft has decided to leave it alone but again all those news and rumors that came around were kind of fun
. This is what Steve Ballmer had to say,
We had a set of principles, we talked about them, it didn’t work out. Fine, we’re done. We can move on.
But wait we don’t have to worry about not seeing Microsoft trying to run after something else. It seems like they have their eye on Facebook now. We will see how that goes. Get ready for another round and this time it might be Facebook.

Seems like Microsoft has had enough of Vista bashing. After finding ways to defend their position for months on the new operating system, MS has seems to have found a solution. They launched a project code named “Mojave” and chose a number of XP users to use the new operating system. They were told the OS they were using was called Mojave. 90% of users gave positive feedbacks. After all was said and done Microsoft told the participants that the OS was actually Vista and not Mojave.
Microsoft says that the problems users have with Vista is of perception rather than technical. This is what Windows unit business chief Bill Veghte had to say,
We have a huge perception opportunity. We are going to try a bunch of stuff.
We can just wait and see what else Microsoft will do to change “user perception.”

It seems like Yahoo’s acquisition of Zimbra is finally starting to pay off. Although Google seems to take the lead in most other things, Yahoo has beaten google in the race to access emails offline. The e-mail software works when the user is offline, and it offers options for basic online word processing and spreadsheets, task management, and file storage.

Let’s wait and see how Google will respond to this

The company that already helped millions of people skip commercials between shows is now teaming up with Amazon for something even better – Using a remote control to buy products!
Tivo plans to introduce a “product feature” on Tuesday ( today ) in partnership with one of the largest internet retailers, Amazon.com. This feature will allow users to buy, Cds, Dvds and books that are being promoted on TV shows such as “Oprah Winfrey Show,” ” The Daily Show” and so on.
This certainly is going to be an interesting feature. Tivo users with “spendy” wife and little children should certainly make sure those fingers don’t push this button

Most of you have probably heard of Kevin Mitnick. If you haven’t, he was considered as “the most wanted hacker in the world” at one time. Kevin Mitnick recently signed a deal with Little, Brown and Company to tell his life story.

He will now be able to cash in by writing about his crimes …errrrrrr…. I mean his hacking business.
