So all the crazy twitter hacking that was going on was done by an 18 year old. He got access to one of the Twitter staff’s account whose password happened to be “happiness.” It is plain stupid for a twitter staff with administrative account to use a password like that. This 18 year old had quite a bit of fun on twitter by playing around with a few celebrity accounts and I guess he gave access to others as well. Watch the video below to see what he did. The video is pretty poor but still you can see him working it out.

One of the most useful and yet often evil things about surfing on the Internet is the amount of data that can be collected on a person.  Their habits, history, preferences — all of these factors can be tracked and applied in different ways to make you a target, whether it be a target of advertisers or a target of hackers.

According to the Anonymizer website:

It is estimated that 90% of all computers are infected with some form of spyware that may track keystrokes, allowing criminals to learn passwords and bank account numbers—essentially giving them access to anything and everything on your computer.

None of us ever really believe identity theft will happen to us but that is precisely what happened to over 10 million people last year alone. To say that we are at risk is an understatement. There are elite groups of cyber criminals forming in the far corners of the globe targeting consumers and businesses online.

This is staggering information.  There are advantages and disadvantages:

  • Advantage: They don’t get your data
  • Disadvantage: Some websites will not work properly without your data
  • Advantage: Your history is yours to keep or erase
  • Disadvantage: Some of the nice features and convenience that cookies and IP tracking offer are gone
  • Advantage: They don’t get your data

Okay, so it was technically a tie, but we count the top and bottom one twice.  Protect yourself.  It’s cheap!

In today’s world where travel and connectivity are walk hand-in-hand, having a laptop that is both durable and effective can be the difference between success and failure.  While there are many rugged and semi-rugged notebooks on the market, price can be an issue to consider.

We recently took a look at Panasonic Toughbooks.  We found the best prices for them at Rugged Laptops starting at $1,698.  Not much more than a regular, “fragile” laptop, we took a peak at the specs:

LCD Size:

15.4? TFT WXGA (1280×800)

Processor Speed:

2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

RAM:

1GB DDRII

Hard Drive Size:

160GB, 5400RPM

Wireless:

Intel Pro Wireless 802.11 a/b/g/n

Media Drive:

Super Multi CDRW+/DVDRW+

Battery:

Li-Ion Smart w/AC Adapter

Operating System:

XP Professional

Warranty

3 Years, 1 on Batteries

Not bad when you consider that comparably priced regular laptops aren’t much more powerful.

The primary advantage of a rugged notebook is, well, they’re rugged.  Take a peak at this video and you will see that travellers, business people, and students have a need for something so strong.  They probably just don’t know how inexpensive they can be.

Internet is full of lists. Pretty much every blog seems to have a list for one reason or the other. Some do it for the sake of traffic and some are quite useful. As we were browsing the web we came across a list that seems to have come at a very right time. As we all know people are getting laid off left and right. There is absolutely no job security at the moment, well there never was but it seems to be getting worst day by day. However, there are plenty of jobs out there, I guess its just a matter of going out and hunting them down. Gone are the days when you would have to walk everywhere looking and applying for jobs. 21st century job hunters sit at their home, fire up their computers and apply.

We found a resource post that seems to list pretty much all the good job boards or job search sites out there. Here are a few of them listed directly from the post :

PC World folks are always onto something. Ever since I was young I have been turning to them for latest on technology news and information. Recently they compiled a list of gadgets that apple doesn’t have yet but would be cool if they did and I have to say some of these would really be pretty cool. Seriously a tribook would be awesome and I am sure if they came out Jason would once again jump on board and buy us all one ;-) .

Take a look at these images. The products that you see below don’t exist yet but now that PC World has given them a slight idea of what users might like, we migh be able to see them sometimes this year or may be never, who knows….

    TriBook

    MacBook Touch

    Touchscreen Trackpad

    MacBook Nano Redux

If you are reading this post, one thing gets clear without a doubt. You love using the internet or even if you don’t, you are quite a frequent user. Period. There are new developments taking place in the virtual world everyday and as it attracts more and more users, the need to simplify things arises automatically.

Every person who uses the internet practically for more than 2 hours is always on the lookout for making tasks easier and faster. Web 2.0, which is revolutionizing the way people work and collaborate on the internet through PM 2.0 is also being adopted by more and more individuals and businesses as well. Just because we don’t want to sound too professional, we will be enlisting 10 websites that can actually make e-life much easier.

    1. Yotify: Finding something on the internet can be no less difficult than finding a pin in the hay. This is where Yotify.com comes to the rescue. This is no ordinary search engine, although still something like Google Alerts and Yahoo Alerts. Yotify offers a unique service where you can search what you are looking for according to your budget. Say you are looking for a couch within a specific budget. Yotify will search according to your location and keep sending you e-mails just as they find the right deal, in case your deal is not available at the moment. This is where it differs from the already successful biggies. Trust us, it is more of a life saver than time saver.
    2. Swirrl: This is a brilliant web application for businesses worldwide. Your team can share, edit, store and analyze information. It lets you keep track of your information and analyze the searched information effectively and efficiently. The best part is that you can access it from anywhere in the world since you just need a computer and the internet. Very useful for any teams in general.
    3. Clutterme: This may sound like it’s for geeks but it really is more. Clutterme allows you to create your personal webpages within seconds and it is not even required for you to have any knowledge about programming languages or HTML and the likes. It can be great specially for people who don’t want to spend ridiculous amounts on buying a domain name for creating webpages for personal use. This can be great for creating resumes and portfolios.
    4. mail2web: This is a great online application that allows you to access any number of e-mail accounts including biggies like Hotmail, Google or even your e-mail address from your own domain from a single login. It does not even require registration although registered users do get additional features. This one can help you save a great deal of time on the internet.
    5. Kaltura: The idea behind the website is to provide a platform for online video collaboration. People can create customized webpages for their video content and can easily embed anywhere in the world. It lets you add effects, music etc. to your music videos, documentaries, travelogues etc.
    6. Flickrin: This is one of the most known sites when it comes to talking about photography. It lets you add a badge to your blog or website containing multiple Flickr photos. You can search by tags or username as per your convenience. Choose from thousands of photographs and share it with people who appreciate photography. This is how pictures can bring people closer. Just click and embed.
    7. PlanningWiz: So you’re sitting home while the New Year is arriving and you decide you want to experiment with the look of your room. What do you do? Log onto this wonderful website which lets you sketch a room plan, edit and draw floor plans, customize them with furniture and various objects. You can make a design as you like. Save it and even print it if you love it enough to actually do a turnover.
    8. BudgetTracker: This is a great online tool for keeping your personal finances up to date. You can customize this tool for managing your own your budget, bills and transaction from a single place. Use bill reminders, track upcoming bills etc. just like Microsoft Money. Handy for managing all sorts of finances.
    9. Basecamp: An online collaboration tool for businesses which want minimum investments in training and money. Although it does lack a few features like app. Sharing and whiteboards, but it proves to be great tool anyways. This is available in different packages at different prices on a monthly basis and can be an excellent tool for people wanting to cut down their costs on training. If its project management online, this is site for you.
    10. Tabup: Last but not the least is Tabup. This is an online day planner where reminders and other activities are organized into tabs. You can also share tabs so that you can interact easily with a large no. of workmates or friends. Option to keep tabs private is also available. The tool is very new and can really help you plan your schedule.

Hope these sites will help you make your web life a little easier. If you got a couple that you would like to share with us, drop us a line in the comments section.

I get to talk to a lot of the top users over at Digg. This is important because the Digg algorithm is always in a constant state of tweak (a statement that can be construed properly several different ways). It changes as fast as, if not faster than, Google and other search engines. Two questions always pop up with either me asking top users or other users asking me:

“What does it take to get to the front page?”

The answer has two parts: time and tools. We can go into the time issue later, but for now, let’s assume that you have the time. The second question is:

    “What are the right tools?”

There are dozens of lists of Digg tools out there. Most of them are nice and quaint, but do top users really use them. Normally, no. Here are the tools that they do use. Some are obviously loose interpretations of the word “tools” but anything that helps to achieve the goal of hitting the front page often should be listed. Read the rest of this entry
