A New Way Of Duplicating Keys Has Arrived

Before I go any further I would like to share a short story with you. I live in Minnsota and as you can imagine the weather here is cold, bitter cold. I like ice fishing because there is barely anything else to do if you live where I live. There are days when I go for a drive just to soothe my mind but the bugs hitting my windshield from never ending corn fields is just ridiculous.

I once went fishing on a lake ( yeah we go fishing on a lake cause the lake freezes solid ) and the ice was solid. I parked my truck enjoyed my fishing and when it was time to go back home I realized I had locked the keys in my car. Not fun. Called my girlfriend to see if she would come out and bail me out from this misery, well, her answer : “You got yourself into it, You get yourself out of it.” Imagine that. On a lake thats frozen solid, right in the middle with a truck that might be as heavy as a small industrial truck. It was time to panic. I wish I had an extra key or I at least hoped there was a way I could take a picture of my keys that were dangling from the dashboard and email it to someone who could get me a duplicate just by looking at the image. No such technology was around then.

We do now! If you were to get into a situation like I did couple years ago, it doesn’t seem like you will have much to worry about. Check out this article on ReadWriteWeb which shows a new technology that can create duplicate keys from images. Although it might be something useful, if the technology gets into the wrong hands it can be a disaster.
