Not exactly but that is what the service pretty much does. Usually when you are using twitter, your twitter stream is filled with unwanted noise. Some people have hundreds and thousands of followers and of course its not possible to engage in conversation with all of them at the same time. This is when TweetChat comes in really handy.

TweetChat is a service that lets you use twitter like a chat. You change rooms like other online chat services and move from one specific conversation to the other. This service becomes really useful when you are trying to track something that is of importance to you. It might be a specific keyword or something that you are researching on and would like to participate and gain some data without all the background noise that Twitter usually gets crowded with.

Using TweetChat is as easy as it can be. To login use your twitter username and password. Once you are logged in you will be directed to page that asks you to enter a room. You won’t have any options to choose from as these rooms are based on what other twitter users are talking about. There are too many for them to list as I am sure there a few specific topics that are born each minute. Anyways, if you are looking to join in on a conversation that is related to “technology” just go ahead and type “technology” and hit enter. Now you will be able to see all tweets that are marked #technology and you can participate directly from tweetchat without having to visit twitter. This filters all the noise and you will be able to see all tweets related to technology. If you want to choose a different topic, just click “change room” and you are ready to go.

This can be a very useful tool if you want to focus on specific topics or conversations. Give it a try, you will love it!

Before we get started with the post I would like to say that personally I am not for this service. The only reason I chose to feature this on Nethackz is because we would like our readers to know that their are options to earn money via twitter. I don’t think the overall model of the business is bad but for some reason I myself am not comfortable using it.

Magpie is a service that lets you earn money from you tweets and the tagline makes that clear – convert your tweets into bling-bling. Magpie is an ad network for twitter that connects advertisers to possible targeted market on twitter based on what they are tweeting. As I have written above, I do not use this service so haven’t tried it yet but this is how it works.

  • Advertisers get in touch with magpie
  • Magpie looks for users that are tweeting things that might be based on advertisers products or services
  • Magpie tweets a message from you on behalf of the advertiser.

The service is simple. As far as I know the service usually finds best match before it sends out a “magpie” ad. If you are talking about food, your magpie ad will contain a tweet related to food to keep it as relevant as possible. If you are up for making some money I would suggest you give it a try. See how it goes and may be I will come on board with you guys ;-) .

Lets talk a little about PopURLs in case you don’t know about it. PopURL stands for “Popular URL” and this service is like the central hub where you can find all the URL that are popular on the web. The service pulls links from sites such as Digg, Reddit, StumbleUpon, YouTube among many others and neatly lists them under the service it was pulled from. The links are based on popularity hence the name PopURLs.

Now to the Twitter part :) . Not that we were trying to break our “Twitter Week” promise, we just had  to kind of layout the central idea before we talked about TwittURLs. TwittURLs is a similar service like PopURLs and the only difference which you probably already figured out is that it pulls popular links from Twitter. This service lists all the links that are popular on twitter based on number of views. the more it is viewed the higher placement it gets.

This site first lists links to content based on popularity followed by popular images and then videos. It seems like anytime you use Twitpic to send images to twitter, it shows on content category as well. Whenever you send a link to an image through twitpic instead of the title of the image you get “Twitpic – Share images on Twitter,” which is kind of a bummer as it would be nice to see the title. It is a pretty neat service and might be pretty helpful for bloggers to analyze how their links are doing. If its here your links are certainly doing good on Twitter.

As promised starting this week we will be featuring twitter application and services related to twitter. The first one that we would like to cover this week is Twellow - a twitter search directory. Although I am a pretty active twitter user I am not pretty heavy into twitter search and all that stuff. However, I do use a few twitter related services and applications. I am not sure if there are other services like Twellow out there, but this one certainly did catch my attention.

Twellow is like the “yellow page” of twitter users. It is a directory where all twitter user are listed based on their interest or profession. The users are categorized based on certain words that are found on their profile. If you are looking to follow people within a certain niche, profession or sports I think this service can be of tremendous help.

Although the site’s design looks pretty “oldish” it is pretty easy to use. You can either use the search box to find someone based on their profession and so on or use the listing which is called “Twellow Categories.”

Once you hit the “search” button the results are shown based on popularity. The users who has the most number of followers are shown on the very top and so on. You can login to the site using your twitter account. I logged into Twellow using my twitter account and upon searching I found that most people that I am following are still shown with a follow button. This kind of makes it hard to analyze who you are following and who you have yet to follow if you have a large number of followers and following.

All in all I personally think this is a pretty helpful tool for twitter users. If you are looking to follow users within a certain group or niche this certainly makes the task easier. If you know of any other services that are similar to this please feel free to share with us.

Well, well, well, look what we got here, another service related to Twitter but this one we had to let you guys know about. SpliTweet is a service that lets users with multiple twitter account manage tweets and their twitter account. This service is more for corporate users who use multiple twitter accounts but I think it is quite beneficial for individuals who have more than one twitter accounts or profile.

The use of the service is pretty easy. It is free to use this service and once you are signed in you can add as many Twitter accounts as you would like. Once you are logged in using your main twitter account, you can add new twitter accounts simply by clicking on “twitter accounts.” Add your new twitter profile name and password and you are good to go. This is how the interface looks like once you are signed in ,

You can check the “check box” next to your twitter username and send tweets out. You can either check all of them or check only ones that you would like to tweet. It is extremely easy to use and anyone who has more than one Twitter account should be able to benefit from this service. If you give it a try let us know what you think.

Here we go, talking about Twitter again. It is just hard not to talk about Twitter anymore. No matter what we do we just can’t seem to avoid Twitter. However, today we are not going to show you a cool Twitter app or something useless related to it. Today we are bringing you something totally wicked that was created by Justin Wickett – turning your lights on and off using twitter.

So what exactly do you need to use Twitter as a remote control to control the lights? Not a whole lot ,

  1. Insteon switch that you write to a computer with internet access
  2. Use your cell phone to tell twitter what light you want turned on or off.

That’s it, pretty easy. The only thing I am wondering is what would happen if a lot of people actually started doing this. Imagine your twitter stream with messages such as “lights on” and “lights off.” I don’t think it is very practical at least not yet, but nevertheless it is a cool invention.

Not exactly a different model of iPhone but a tactile silicon case that might help blind people make a fashion statement. iPhone is one of the most popular phones and I am sure Apple would like to include a market that it has yet to tap. Invisual, a tactile silicon case for the Apple iPhone is still a prototype but it looks like a good idea. There is no reason why visually impaired shouldn’t be able to make a fashion statement and join the “hip” crowd. Please take a look below to see the images of invisual,

What started out as a search engine, Google is now a behemoth in the tech industry. I remember the days when they launched the search engine and everyone was wondering how they are going to monetize and stay in business. Look at them now. Recently google released google android and people seem to love the new G1 phone ( I am still waiting for mine, Jason ;-)   ). Anyway, enough rambling from my side. Just wanted to quick show you guys a demo on Google’s operating System which is due sometimes early next year. Please take a look at the video and make sure to check out the start and shut off time,

note : please note that gOS stands for good Operating System and not Google Operating System. I wasn’t sure about it and wrote the article as Google Operating System. If the information was misleading in anyway we would like to apologize.

The world’s first supercomputer has been finally unveiled. Although most of us would like to own this beast, at this point it might be out of reach for most of us. The pricing for the personal computer currently is anywhere between $5000-$11000. Although the pricing might seem high, considering the fact that there are gamers who shell out $5000 for a nice rig kind of justifies the price. I mean, come on its your own personal super computer that sits on your desk.

It is said that this computer can perform functions 250 times faster that today’s personal computers. However, these super computers might not be for the general population. It is more for researchers and doctors who like to gather data for experiment and stuff. At this point it might not be a personal computer that might reach most homes, but it certainly is shaping the future of computer.

Cooliris, the popular browser extension that revolutionizes the way you view media on your computer, has just gotten a lot more personal!

With Favorites, the content that is relevant and important to you is always just a click away in your own personal 3D Wall. “Star” videos, photos or Flash content to sync it with your account and add it to your own Wall.

You could create a playlist of your favorite music videos from across the web, or assemble an entire season of Hulu television shows or movies. From the mundane to the esoteric or the exciting, Favorites in Cooliris is always faster and easier than bookmarking individual web pages.

Cooliris takes customization even further by introducing Preferences. You can customize the look and feel of the 3D Wall itself. Users can modify the number of rows in the Wall, the speed of the Wall scroll, as well as the Wall Angle, Zoom Levels and much more.
