Although we might not say it very often we would like to thank all our readers and visitors for supporting us. For being a fairly new blog we have had some massive success in a very short amount of time. You are the reason that drives us each day to do what we do, you are the reason that motivates us to get out of bed and find something for you. We just want to thank you today, the readers, who have become an integral part of the Hackz community and without you we would have never gotten where we are today. Thank you for all your support and a happy thanksgiving!!! If you would like to share your blogs, sites or articles feel free to leave the link in the comments section. This is the least we can do at the moment so if you would like to share your sites please leave the link in the comments section.
Once again, thank you for your continued support and a very Happy Thanksgiving.
Last night while getting my daily dose of content and what not from sites like Digg, reddit I came across something that really caught my eye. The fact that it was on the frontpage of reddit surging rapidly was definitely a good sign because unlike Digg, reddit is a “purist” community and what is good gets bumped up, period.
The site that I want to review today is BigBookSearch. I find this site to be extremely useful in many ways. It sort of acts like Google’s image search but for books, dvds and Music CDs. Lost that album cover and don’t remember what it looked like? Well, here is an easy solution. This service pulls all of its data from Amazon Web Services. You might ask what is the point of using it if you can just use Amazon? The main thing with this service is the ease of use and how neatly everything is worked out. Its sort of finding your favorite books, DVDs and CDs on a shelve. You can see the image clearly as they are clear and sometimes picture do say a thousand words.
I really enjoyed using the service and it is certainly something you should try if you are a bookworm, moviebuff or a music junky. It is well presented, has an extensive data (pulled from Amazon) and you get to see images of the books and all. It is definitely easier at times when you know the author and remember the cover but can’t seem to recall the name of the book.
Like I mentioned above, I found this via Reddit. I have included some reviews that reddit users left and trust me reddit is a community that says it like it is. Check it out what reddit community thinks about this site which shows the likeability of this service,
There are a lot more positive reviews on the reddit link. You can see suggestions, reviews and all if you click on this link. I know I will be using this service and although it pulls data from Amazon, it is way better than using Amazon itself. Out of 10 I wouldn’t mind giving this site a 9.5.
Twitter has been a web phenomenon. Everyone seems to be on twitter, from politicians to CEOs. I personally think Twitter is a great communication tool and a marketing tool if used wisely. If you are one of those people who likes to track your Social Media ranking, this might be something you want to play with. Twitter grader ranks you Twitter profile based on factors such as :
The number of followers you have
The power of this network of followers
The pace of your updates
The completeness of your profile, etc.
There is not much to know regarding the use of the site. Simply put your Twitter username in the box and you are good to go. The site is easy to use and I am not sure how accurate the data is, it sure is a good application to play with. Sometimes its just fun to put random username and see where they stand within the twitter community. I used my twitter profile to see how I ranked on Twitter, please look at the image below. Like I said its as simple as a) put you username in the box provided, and b) click “grade.”
If you would like to add me on twitter, here is my profile : ritubpant
For anyone who has yet to try Twitter, I would urge you to give it a try. At first it seems a little confusing but once you get the hang of it, you will soon find out that its one of the best communication tool out there.
I apologize to all the readers for targeting this post strictly towards Jason (founder) but as far as I know he has been waiting to get his hands on this toy for a while. I own a Palm Treo and I will never suggest anyone to get their hands on one. It literally sucks. I have been tempted to get a blackberry myself and looking at the RIM BlackBerry Bold, I think this will be on my wish list. I have heard Jason throws some nice gifts to his close friends and families and I have been a pretty good friend myself (hint hint).
Anyway, now that I have made my intentions clear with this post I would just like to let all you BlackBerry fans out there that the RIM BlackBerry Bold is up for grabs via AT&T. I know Jason will be on board on this one and his generosity has no limits, so I bet there will be one coming my way as well.
One of the most popular blogs that keeps us updated on latest web applications and softwares has been hacked. MakeUseOf is a great blog and we would love to see them gain possession to their domain as soon as possible. The domain seems to have been hacked and is moved to a domain hosting company somewhere in Dubai. Domain was registered with Godaddy. Earlier this year ( or last year, not sure ) David Airey’s site was hacked as well and the domain was registered with Godaddy. I think this is a clear sign that our domains might not be very safe with Godaddy anymore.
We all know when someone or something is on its way to success there are going to be barriers. We are sure makeuseof.com will overcome this hurdle and get right back up. For now they have created a temporary blog to keep us updated on whats going on. You can check their updates and how things are going until they get hold of their domain from the hackers http://makeuseof-temporary.blogspot.com/
Hope you guys are starting the day with some excitement. I have already had a fair share of spookiness early in the morning but I know a lot more awaits later tonight. Enjoy Halloween with your friends and family and remember to drink responsibly. Take care and a Happy Halloween from The Hackz Network!
The concept of Tizmos is pretty cool although its nothing pioneering. The service basically allows you to add you favorite sites which are all shown as thumbnails on your Tizmos page. This allows you to access your favorite sites without having to type in the URL on the address bar. As far as I can see, you can add as many sites as you would like. To be able to use this site users do have to create an account but its the basic information stuff and doesn’t take more than a minute. One thing I found while using Tizmos was that you are allowed to enter tags while adding your favorite sites. It also gives you an option to either make your page public or private. This approach seems like a nice way to get more exposure if users have an option to look for other users favorites based on tags and such. I tried looking for information if it allows users to see other people’s favorites (if the account is set on public) based on tags but couldn’t find anything.
All in all its a pretty cool service and does solve a problem that most of us face at times. If it allows users to search other people’s favorites based on tags this service can surely be something most webmasters could make use of. If you look at the image below I have added the blogs within the Hackz Network. While tagging I tagged Traffickd as “internet marketing.” If they allow users to search based on tags it would be one more way to get exposure for webmasters and bloggers which would give their service more appeal.
We all know that the digg community has been pretty frustrated with all the recent bannings that has been going on recently. I think this has started effecting a group of members known as the “baby diggers” that are largely unnoticed by other diggers. Today a baby digger by the name Lance Knight Rodriguez brings out the message to all the diggers and Kevin Rose from his community.
We would like to thank Lance for bringing into attention about the existence of “baby diggers.” I am sure we will be seeing a lot more of Lance in the coming weeks and months as he seems to speak his mind out loud and clear.
Thanks Neal for the video. Hopefully Digg will listen to Lance as he seems to do a better job than you
I just came across Apple’s new ad and I have to say that this is one of the best apple ads I have seen in a while. Although they tend to come out with pretty good ads this one hits the nail in the head. It is directly targeted towards Vista and tries to show why Windows users are having problem with Vista. Enjoy!
Just a quick plug on a new social media site that is geared towards financial news, ideas and tips. During high times of economic turmoil and financial distress the launch of this social media platform is a great treat. The site already seems to be quite popular among web users and financial savvy people as the upcoming sections are crawling with new stories every minute. I personally love the idea and have already started using this service. At this point I just wanted to quick let you know about Tipd since it seems to be the talk of the web at the moment. Once we get a little more hands on and see how the site grows we will provide you with a detailed review on this new service. But as of now it looks very promising and I would suggest you start using this social media platform, either to stay on top of the financial news or to promote your content if you are in this particular niche.
