Wearable gadgets are all the rage these days among tech savvy people. USB gadgets, necklaces are valued more than gold and diamonds when it comes to “geek fashion.”

As a web worker I find myself constantly looking for wi-fi signals so I can get the work done when I want and where I want. Of course there is a problem with that. I either have to take my laptop out and wait to see if there is a signal or pull the keychain wi-fi detector out to see if there is any available. Not so fashionably geeky. However, for the geek fashionistas this shirt might be the ultimate wearable gadget. Just slip it on and go ahead. The glowing bars on the front of the shirt dynamically change as the surrounding wi-fi signal strength fluctuates.

While you are on the hunt for some wi-fi signal you will actually be able to help other geeks as well since they won’t have to whip out their old fashion wi-fi detector. Talk about becoming the center of attention. ;-)

A while back we had let our readers know that Gawker Media’s consumer information blog Consumerist.com was up for grabs. We recently found that the blog has been purchased by Consumers Union. We are not sure exactly what amount the blog was bought for, but it seems like it did go into good hands considering the niche and the market consumerist has been serving.

Consumer Reports was launched in 1936 and does not accept advertising and starting now consumerist.com won’t be accepting any advertisements either, which I suppose was the main source of revenue for gawker media through consumerist.com.

Here is a brief description of Consumer Union,

Consumers Union, the publisher of Consumer Reports, is an expert, independent, nonprofit organization whose mission is to work for a fair, just, and safe marketplace for all consumers and to empower consumers. To achieve this mission, CU tests, informs, and protects. To maintain independence and impartiality, CU accepts no outside advertising, no free test samples, and has no agenda other than the interests of consumers. CU supports itself through the sale of information products and services, individual contributions, and a few noncommercial grants. CU’s flagship publication, Consumer Reports magazine, has a circulation of 4.3 million and continues to expand, while the magazine’s Web site ConsumerReports.org has more than 3.3 million paid subscribers and is the largest subscription-based Web site in the industry. In addition, CU has successfully launched and expanded Consumer Reports on Health, Consumer Reports Money Adviser, and, most recently, ShopSmart magazine.

Personally I think consumerist will be much more better in the hands of Consumers Union!

Personally I am not very big on sites that use Flash. But sometimes you come across ones that really seem to catch your attention, well at least mine. As I was browsing the web (which happens to be my job), I came across upshot which is done in flash and is extremely entertaining. The whole site pretty much revolves around a ball that guides you throughout the site. If you get a chance, give it a go, I am sure you will enjoy watching the ball help you navigate :) .

Cell phones have evolved in the past decade from simple communication devices to mini technologial powerhouses, so is it really a surprise to learn that they might become even more interactive? This week, Microsoft Research will present a paper detailing two new methods for cell phone’s to transmit information: a hand-rubbing device that works by moving a small ball or nub back and forth and a finger-tapping contraption that uses a tiny “hammer”.

So why would anyone want to be caressed by their cell phone? According to the paper’s authors, the rubs and taps could be useful for family members wanting to exchange quick messages about common daily events— for example, a hand rub could signal “I’m on my way home from work.”

Still, I’m not so sure that this idea will take off— the researchers noted that their rubbing technique couldn’t generate enough pressure to feel natural, and I wouldn’t enjoy a strange electronic sensation every time someone decides to contact me. Regardless, the research does hint at future possibilities for cell phone communication.

One of the reason I don’t own an iPhone is simply because I have to break my contract with my current provider. I am a tightwad like that, I don’t like to pay money and break out of my contract. But if iPhone could be used with any provider, trust me I would have one by now. Anyways, recently a video was posted showing an unlocked 3G iPhone. The creator claims that the unlock will be publicly available on Dec.31st.

Rumors are going around that T-Mobil might be gearing up to launch G2 pretty soon in the near future. As of this point it is just a rumor but we are pretty sure G2 is in the making and will launch soon. Can’t say if it will launch on the exact date as rumors has it but we can almost guarantee that will be out sometimes early next year. Here are a few things that we found related to G2 from our source link.

note : these specs are taken directly from the source. please click on the source link for more information,

  • The product specs on the T-Mobile G2 that CellPhoneSignal ran weren’t actually all that far off, just the date was completely wrong.
  • The device is a full touch device and there is no physical QWERTY keyboard.
  • There is still a trackball at the bottom.
  • The launch was delayed from late February to April due to software issues.
  • We’ve been informed this device will actually launch on another global carrier besides T-Mobile as well, though they didn’t say who, and they said that the G1, G2, G3, etc., names are trademarks of T-Mobile and the other carrier would have a different product name for the device other than G2.

If you read the last bullet you can see that it seems like they are planning on launching G2 with another global carrier. If they launch G2 with another golbal carrier they might have to change the name but it would certainly give them a larger market.
