Server apps are awesome. What better way to recycle on old PC than to hook it up to the network, install a couple applications, and make it work for you!
The only thing that makes me love server side software more is when they offer community editions so you can try them, tweak ‘em and build them out.
Rendezvous is one such server-side application. It’s an ‘Enterprise Collaboration Suite’ meant for project teams and scattered workforce members, but it’s features are something bloggers or ambitious professionals might use.
It features an:
Email client
Calendar
Project Management
Document Management
Contact Management
RSS/Atom Feed Reader
So rather than pay two or three services for similar functionality, install this app on your server and use it for free!

Not necessarily the most catchy of titles, but nonetheless.
If you’re running your own web server, you want to make sure your websites are accessible by your visitors. That way when they show up, they don’t get a time out error or the dreaded ‘page not found’ screen.
For those who are particularly crafty, I’m sure you could write a little script that pings your sites to make sure they’re up. Or if you feel the need to check on your sites 30 times a day, that works too.
For me, I like Are My Sites Up. Are My Sites Up is a great little service that polls your websites every so often to make sure they’re working. If not, it sends you a text message and an email so you can fix things!
This is particularly nice because my personal phone doesn’t get email (and it’s that way for a reason!). But I do want to know when my sites are down!
So anyway, if you need simple website monitoring, check out AreMySitesUp.com. They have a free account which is full featured, so no need to pay money if you only have a couple sites!
Do you know of any other services like this? If so, leave a comment. I’ll add them and a link to your site in this post!

Over the past month, I have dove deep into server software, namely the open source variety. I’ve played with everything from Ubuntu Server to CentOS and Fedora.
Obviously, when you spend the time and the effort getting a web server (or a file server or a mail server) up and running, you want it to do some cool stuff! In other words, you need software.
Well, after scouring the web, I found a lot of disparate information about cool open source server apps you can run at home to make your life easier. Whether it’s bookmarking software, a personal RSS reader, or whatever – we’re going to show you how to set that stuff up.
The bottom line is Google is fantastic – but it’s Google. You can only trust them with so much information. And besides, if you’re like me, you were spending hundreds of dollars every month on software as a service apps like Freshbooks, Aweber, and others…
Why, when you can run and host all your own stuff??
After all – NetHackz was always meant to be just that.. Hacking the web.
Look forward to some great stuff..
Jason

Web servers don’t need tons of resources. An old box with 40GB of disk space and 512 mb will do in a server pretty nicely. Especially if you’re just using it for development!
This video shows you how to set up the Ubuntu Server operating system. Once you get it installed, check out the post on how to set up EHCP which will install PHP, Apache, MySQL quickly and easily…

So all the crazy twitter hacking that was going on was done by an 18 year old. He got access to one of the Twitter staff’s account whose password happened to be “happiness.” It is plain stupid for a twitter staff with administrative account to use a password like that. This 18 year old had quite a bit of fun on twitter by playing around with a few celebrity accounts and I guess he gave access to others as well. Watch the video below to see what he did. The video is pretty poor but still you can see him working it out.

One of the most useful and yet often evil things about surfing on the Internet is the amount of data that can be collected on a person. Their habits, history, preferences — all of these factors can be tracked and applied in different ways to make you a target, whether it be a target of advertisers or a target of hackers.
It is estimated that 90% of all computers are infected with some form of spyware that may track keystrokes, allowing criminals to learn passwords and bank account numbers—essentially giving them access to anything and everything on your computer.
None of us ever really believe identity theft will happen to us but that is precisely what happened to over 10 million people last year alone. To say that we are at risk is an understatement. There are elite groups of cyber criminals forming in the far corners of the globe targeting consumers and businesses online.
This is staggering information. There are advantages and disadvantages:
Advantage: They don’t get your data
Disadvantage: Some websites will not work properly without your data
Advantage: Your history is yours to keep or erase
Disadvantage: Some of the nice features and convenience that cookies and IP tracking offer are gone
Advantage: They don’t get your data
Okay, so it was technically a tie, but we count the top and bottom one twice. Protect yourself. It’s cheap!

Soon the days of fancy cars will be over and we will all be fighting to add the next cool plane to our list of vehicles. The Icon A5 aircraft is solely designed for personal use and the pricing is low enough compared to some of the fancy cars out there. It is estimated that the plane will be priced at $139,000 and will be available sometimes in 2010 for purchase. The Icon A5 aircraft is a 2 seater sports aircraft that is light weight and comes with retractable landing gear which makes it capable for flying off both in land and water.
The size of the plane is small enough to fit in someone’s yard or if you have a big enough garage probably inside the garage as well. Ohh and the plane can be folded as well so you can store it easily. Take a look at these images below and specifications of this amazing technological wonder,
