This site (SocialElves) seems to have created some buzz on the web.  Personally, I think someone just wasted a good amount of time creating a site that won’t do them any good. A business model like this won’t succeed in the long run if it succeeds at all. The fact that someone is trying to game publicly and creating so much buzz on the web alone is a failure. We all know that there is certain amount of digg gaming. There is nothing wrong with social media marketing but needs to be done in a way where clients get the most benefit. How about giving content optimization help among other things? That certainly isn’t the case with this service.

Here are a few of my reasons as to why this service is a sure failure:

  • For a digg promotion they are asking $300. For most of you this might not be a lot of money but $300 dollar for a trial to see how it works out seems like a lot of money to me.
  • Although they provide a money back guarantee, you won’t get the full amount back. Here is an excerpt from the site itself :“Getting a story popular on Digg is never a sure thing, even with our extensive experience. That is why we provide a money back guarantee. We will give you money back ($1.50) for every Digg under 200 within 48 hours. So if we are only able to give you 180 Diggs within 48 hours, you will get refunded $30.”Trust me pulling 100-125 diggs isn’t that hard if your content is good. So even if the submission doesn’t make it to the frontpage you still lose most of your money if not all. And Digg barely brings any traffic unless you hit the frontpage. So 300 dollars to sit on upcoming page for 20 hours? I don’t think so.
  • What these guys are trying to do by making their service available publicly already goes on underground. This is nothing new but the fact that they will be doing what everyone else does ( asking for diggs via email, IM and such) just doesn’t seem worth $300.
  • They aren’t providing content optimization. If you are going to do social media promotion the first thing you need to provide your client is help with their content so they can create one that suits the digg community. Didn’t see that anywhere on this site. Its straight to the point : Give us $300 and we will give it a shot. If it doesn’t work out we will give 10% back kind of deal.

All in all whoever created this service will be exposed sooner or later. Words are floating around on the web and every active social being seems to be on the hunt for the creator of this service. As of now we have these information available so far,

It won’t be long before everything regarding this site is exposed. if the site had worked underground then it probably had a chance but creating all the buzz on the web is what is going to take this site down hill. Will keep you updated.

Looks like Santa (Digg) will be firing (banning) these naughty elves pretty soon!

Update : The information has been leaked and we know the mastermind behind this service but would hate to pour water down his dreams….so we will be nice and keep our mouth shut. But seriously what the heck was this person thinking by creating such a hype on the web about a service like this? Some businesses make money by creating hype and some do by staying underground.

Failed!
