MediaCaffeine: Collaborative Blogging Network

by Connor Livingston

Last week, Media Caffeine was born.

Built on a simple WordPress platform, MediaCaffeine is, in essence, just another blog.  The concept behind it takes blogging to the next level.  Part blog network, part original content, but in the end the only thing that matters is quality.  Anyone can get in.  They just have to be good.

The idea is pretty straight forward.  Anyone who has a blog can join the network and start posting their stories to it.  While there are some original stories as well, the bulk of it will be stories from other blogs.  Instead of posting the entire post, bloggers simply write 2-3 paragraph descriptions of their post, quote an excerpt from the original, and then link to it from Media Caffeine.

Regardless of whether the post is about equipment leasing or automotive SEO, if it’s good enough, it will be included.  If it’s spammy, it’s left aside.

Only the best stories need to be posted here.  They are screened, but as long as the original story is good and the description paragraphs are unique content, getting published is easy.  This helps bloggers by giving them another venue through which to receive traffic.  More importantly, they get a quality link from a site that promises to accumulate a strong Page Rank.

What’s the catch?  So far, we don’t see any.  They benefit by linking to good content.  Since the descriptions of the stories must be unique, it is assumed that the site will be able to build up a strong amount of unique content that search engines will like.  All in all, it seems to be a pretty strong arrangement.

There are other networks out there.  It seems the difference with this one is in the screening.  Looking in the backend, we noticed that there are nearly 300 stories already in the queue.  Only 32 have been published so far.  While these seem like tough standards, it would appear that keeping it closed to only the best will enhance the readership and make it more likely that participating blogs will be able to get real value instead of being 1 in 1000 posts made in a week.
