While the banning of Digg users has been well publicized recently and capped by the banning of the #3 digger of all time, it was during Zaibatsu’s interview that a hint was dropped.  The bannings may be permanent, Digg may have moved on, but the insinuation that Mixx may be getting a redesign is more important than anything else mentioned.

Mixx is a good site.  It is on the cusp of being a great social media site.  They need to take advantage of the positives they have going for them and nurture the user base until they can sustain and truly grow.

Virally.

A redesign would be the proper first step.  Their initial concept was decent, but it lacked that “something” that could put it over the top.  People go there and in many ways they just do not understand the site that well.  It can be customized, but after the first few times of logging on, the customization becomes meaningless.

In short, the current design does not inspire.

After the whirlwind of news surrounding Digg falls off, it would be nice to see Mixx make some news of their own.  A redesign is a great first step.
