The Best Way to the Internet: Wifi, USB, or Lan?

The same holds true for connecting to the Internet.  Whether at home or office, there are always many connection options that have advantages and disadvantages.  Here is a breakdown along with recommendations.

WiFi

A few years ago, WiFi was “all the rage”.  The ability to connect from a distance really compelled people to add WiFi cards or buy computers that were WiFi ready.  Convenient, portable, and for a while it held a freshness of many new gimmicks.  Many would (and still do) run off to their nearest WiFi capable coffee house and chat with friends to tell them “Ya, I’m at a coffee house!”

Once the newness wore off, the problems started popping up.  Connections dropped.  Security was tenuous.  The most annoying issue: speed.  Since the technology behind WiFi requires a strong level of security and network integration, it has never been able to achieve the speed necessary for today’s serious professional, student, or gamer.

LAN

The advantages and disadvantages of connecting via LAN are easy to identify and clearly delineated.  The primary advantage: speed.  LAN delivers lightning-fast results that are only hampered by the speed of the sender and the ISP itself.  Upload and download times have shrunk exponentially.  While it used to take hours to download a song, now entire movies can be downloaded in minutes, even SECONDS.

The disadvantage: you’re stuck.  Immobile.  LAN keeps its users tethered to an area with a thick cord protruding from both the computer and the wall.  For laptop users who want high-speed connections, LAN may be the only option.  Unless…

USB

Why not have the best of both worlds?  With products available today such as the Wireless USB Hub by IOGEAR, it is possible to keep the high speeds that LAN offers while staying mobile and unencumbered by bulky wires.  One can get connected to the Internet and have many of their peripheral devices such as keyboard, mouse, and printer all connected through the hub.  Going wireless has never been easier.

With that said, there are too many reasons to love USB for Internet.  It is easy for us to recommend it, as well as to recommend IOGEAR’s Wireless USB Hub.  Why?  Simply stated, it’s the best.  Click on the link to read one of many reviews.
