We have all used Wikipedia at some point in time. Whether knowingly or unknowingly we have made use of Wikipedia’s vast resource. It is sort of “universe of information.” Although most of use Wikipedia in our day to day online lives only few have used it to post information or used it from an author’s perspective. Let me tell you its not easy and it definitely isn’t self explanatory. It is like going back in the early 90s and trying to figure out how the heck to work around it.

Wikimedia foundation, the organization that encompasses Wikipedia recently got a grant of $830,000 dollars to make it more friendly for authors and so on. This fund will help them hire three more software developers who will be working on making wikipedia more friendly for people like us who want to use it not just to get information but to post as well.

This is what Wikimedia Foundation executive director Sue Gardner said in the release,

Wikipedia attracts writers who have a moderate-to-high level of technical understanding, but it excludes lots of smart, knowledgeable people who are less tech-centric. One of our key priorities is to attract those people and persuade them to help write and edit the encyclopedia. I am thrilled that the Stanton Foundation recognizes the importance of that work, and will be helping us with it.
