Google said that it will be able to mask user information before it hands out any information to Viacom. A Federal Court had ordered You Tube to hand over usernames, IP addresses and viewing histories to Viacom earlier this month, which won’t be necessary anymore.
This is what Google had to say,
Viacom and the other litigants have backed off their demand for YouTube user viewing histories. We have reached agreement to anonymise the data.
I am glad Viacom and Google owned You Tube reached an agreement. This puts everybody in a win win situation.
